ECONIB – Healthcare R&D

The ECONIB project (Enhancing the diagnostic efficiency of dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging in personalised oncology by extracting new and improved biomarkers) was brought to fruition in close cooperation with the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Centre and Institute of Oncology, Gliwice Department.

Within the framework of this project we are developing methods for analysis of DCE datasets. These methods will enable accurate segmentations from DCE, extraction and analysis of biomarkers from dynamic images as well as convenient processing of large and difficult medical image datasets which can materialise as streams or be of greatly variable qualities.

The goal of this project was to increase the diagnostic power of dynamic imaging after contrast enhancement in personalized oncology by extracting new improved biomarkers. Biomarkers in medical imaging refer to a set of parameters enabling tissue characterisation such as in their composition or perfusion. Having this diagnostic tool available enables estimation of several factors including identifying the specific stage of development in various forms of cancer.

For this effect we have developed Sens.AI – the first fully-automated tool tailor-designed for the analysis of brain tumours from DCE-MRI in real-time (less than 3 mins for end-to-end processing)

Sens.AI is currently being tested in practice in the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Centre and Institute of Oncology, Gliwice Department.

ECONIB was co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund in the Smart Growth Operational Programme, competition 2/1.2/2015_INNOMED – Sectoral Programme “INNOMED – Research and development programme for economy in the sector of innovative medicine”.
